Nowadays we see professional titles related to Mental Health. Like psychologist, Therapist, Counsellor

& Psychiatrist so people get confused, what to choose & from where they can get help. e on. Let see what is the difference between psychologist & Psychiatrist 

• What is psychologist? 

Psychology is the scientific study of the Human mind & behavior. & psychologist involves studying & understanding cognitive, emotional, mental & social process, brain function & behavior process by observing, interpreting & recording. 

Psychologist provide therapies, Counselling, diagnosis , assessment & treatment of Mental health conditions. & help people learn healthy ways to deal with their Mental health issues. 

Psychologist, Therapist & Counsellor all are mental health professionals with different approaches & training. With Master’s & doctorate degree. 

• What is Psychiatrist? 

Psychiatry is the branch of medicine focuses on the diagnosis, treatment & prevention of mental, emotional & Behavioral disorders. 

Psychiatrist is a medical doctor prescribe medicine & other medical treatment & treat both mental & physical aspects of psychological conditions. & also provide therapies & Counselling. 

Psychiatrist & psychologist both sounds same & they both diagnose & treat mental health illness. But their ways are different. 

• Psychiatrist can prescribe medicine & psychologist can not. 

• Psychiatrist is a medical doctor. & psychologist holds doctorate degree. 

• Psychologist are expert in therapies & Counselling & refers patients to a Psychiatrist for the medications. & Psychiatrist also provide therapy & counselling. But refers patients to psychologist for therapy, counselling, Case history & finding root causes of patient's illness. 

• Psychiatrist work within a hospital setup & psychologist don’t necessary to work within hospitals. 

People get benefit from both therapy & Medication. Psychologist & Psychiatrist closely work together on the patients recovery. Psychiatrist & psychologist it’s a team work & they both respect each other.
